Federal Income Taxes
- Audit Technique Guide for Construction Contractors The IRS publishes a Market Segment Specialization Program (MSSP) intended to serve as an Audit Technique Guide (ATG) to their field officers when conducting an audit of your federal tax return. This guide not only covers nearly all the tax issues related to construction contractors, but will also give you a great deal of insight as to what kind of adjustments an IRS officer will be looking for during an audit.
- Current Audit Technique Guide for Construction Contractors In July of 2009 the IRS issued a new audit technique guide for the construction industry. The big change I noticed was a message to the reader about how the IRS feels that the construction industry is one of the largest factors to the "Tax Gap" (unreported income). There is a series of tables at the end to assist the auditor in figuring out how much income should have been reported based on the work that was done.
